Exploring Paris with Fujifilm X100V

Here it is - X100V again. This is officially the third time I owned this camera (and definitely the last one).

Anyway, there was only one rule related to this trip: NO EDITS. So if I was about to take X100V with me, I would just shoot JPG. Now I did shoot RAW as well (though) as it would be stupid not to do so in 2023, but all the photos you see here are SOOC, non-edited pictures, all taken through OVF.

Interestingly, I was enjoying OVF very much this time, even though it’s still a sh*tty one. Probably the most annoying thing about it is that it moves randomly, shrinks in size, and that the focus is fixed size - too big for my taste.

Now let’s look at some pictures at no particular order.

You might be surprised, but this camera can take pictures. I mean, it’s just a camera. Unfortunately, I am still confident that it is overpriced today and that you should not pay more than $1200 for the V.

Now I could bet you wonder why I bought it again and used it myself if I hate it so much. Let’s say I like how it looks and how small it is to carry around. But it is still a very plastic feeling thing in hands and not so intuitive for extended use. I got it exactly for $1200 and then I sold it for $1500. Difference in price paid for Disneyland and train tickets. So maybe if you are trying to make some money on the side you should try and find good ones to resell :p

Yeah, battery life sucks as well. But it is weather sealed with a filter attached on it, which was very welcome when we visited Disneyland as it was the worst weather ever.

I haven’t talk about Paris at all here. Should I? Paris is lovely and everyone should visit it. Just not with a toddler - except for Disneyland.

Thanks for reading!

If anyone is interested, here are the accessories I used on the V.

If you came all the way here then I will share my recipe for the V where I tried to emulate Kodak Portra 160 :)

  1. Film Simulation: Classic Chrome (closest base simulation to Portra’s colors)
  2. Grain Effect: Weak (Portra 160 has fine grain)
  3. Color Chrome Effect: Weak
  4. Color Chrome FX Blue: Weak
  5. White Balance: Auto, +2 Red, -4 Blue (to achieve warmer tones)
  6. Dynamic Range: DR200 (for improved highlight and shadow detail)
  7. Highlight Tone: -1 (to maintain soft highlights)
  8. Shadow Tone: 0 (neutral)
  9. Color: +2 (for slightly more vibrant colors)
  10. Sharpness: 0 (neutral)
  11. Noise Reduction: -2 (to preserve details)

Finally, here is my review of X100V in case you missed it where I mostly complain about it :)))))
